Short post here as I’ve got to get a nap in.
I met a few people from the Intergalactic Interpretation Collective, which is providing the infrastructural support and devices that we will be using for wireless interpreting throughout the week. What I found interesting was that they are an offshoot of a micro-radio collective, looking for additional ways in which the radio technology that they’ve learned and acquired can be made useful in other contexts. They basically came up with this system—the use of cheap hand-held FM radios, and transmitters that they built themselves–which they’ve provided for other groups and functions seeking interpretation services where none were actually being offered by the event itself. I plan to do an interview with someone from the group at some point.
